About Fletcher Math
Hi, I'm Justin Fletcher. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade math, and I make the games on this site.
Why I started making games
Over the years I bought a lot of pre-made activities for my classroom, and most of them fell flat. The games I found had the same problems: most didn't support team play, and nearly all of them needed an internet connection. In our older school building, a dropped connection meant a lost lesson. I kept feeling there had to be a better way, so I started building my own.
My first tries were what I now call "glorified worksheets." Students didn't buy in until I found games where they could make real choices. As one of them put it: "It's not did you win, it's how can I win." That shift from outcome to strategy is what every Fletcher Math game is built around.
How I use them in my own classroom
I play games about 15 minutes a day, about three days a week. My students play in teams, so every member has a stake in getting the answer right, and when someone misses a question, their teammates explain what went wrong. Before every test we play a full-period review game. For me, game time is also a quick formative check: I can see who's struggling and who's ready for more.
What makes these games different
- Built for teams. Up to 6 players or teams share one screen, so the whole class can play on the smartboard.
- Nothing to set up. No student accounts, no logins and no internet needed. Download a game, double-click it and press Start.
- Matched to your grade. Choose the grade on the start screen and the questions match it. Every game lists the standards it practices.
- Yours to keep. You pay once and use the games year after year. There's no subscription.
Today there are 150 games for math, reading and science, from kindergarten through high school, and I keep adding more.
